Speedwell / Pepco Supercharger

Speedwell / Pepco Supercharger for 25PS / 30PS Engines.
Reproduction of the Pepco Supercharger.
This Roots type Supercharger is a reproduction of the original Pepco Blower, it first appeared 1950 in the USA. The Pepco Supercharger was intended for the 25HP VW engine, but You can use it on the 36HP engine too.
No engine alterations have to be done, but we advise to use a distributor with a maximum of 22° crankshaft advance. The stock distributor will match this need when the vacuum advance is blocked, even better use a part from 123 Ignition (set to the needed 22° advance) or a Bosch 009 type distributor. The stock carburetor can be used on the Blower too, just main jet and butterfly lever have to be swapped with the supplied parts.
The Speedwell / Pepco Blower is a low-pressure type Supercharger, which was very popular in the beginning of the 1950s. Using the stock carburetor, the ratio of the standard Speedwell pulleys (1:1. 875) is sufficient to produce a moderate boost pressure of 1. 4 to 2. 2psi.
This low boost defines engine characteristics, up to 3400RPM, torque and power is just a little above the stock curves (57flbs @ 2400RPM, 36HP @ 3400RPM). Letting revs go up, torque don´t drops like with the naturaly aspirated engine and power output climbs to 46HP @ 3900RPM.
Our specially developed crankshaft pulley provides a supercharger drive ratio (1:2. 37) to change engine characteristics to a slight over charge. Boost pressure raises to 4. 3 to 5. 8psi. This results in an output of 72flbs @ 2800RPM and 54HP @ 4000RPM.
Of course Supercharger speed raises significantly and there may be higher wear. Sometimes the flip-top oil filler has to be modified to prevent oil leakage at high Supercharger revs.
With the higher torque and power output of the so tuned Peopco Blower, it is, in the hands of an experienced and cool-headed driver, a very interesting method to put some more push in the little engine.
High Octane fuel is recommended with the supercharged engine, either drive ratio You are using for Your special outfit. At least 98 ROZ is necessary to prevent engine damage due to high velocity knocking.
The Fuel consumption is not worse than with the naturally aspirated engine at calm driving. Sports minded driving can result in about 22mpg.
As an accessory we also offer boost pressure gauges with Pepco suited measuring range. Observing boost pressure helps to drive economically and to protect the engine. It also is fun immediately watching the boost reaction on Your throttle foot movement.
We offer gauges with various dial designs, You have the choice of either the original Pepco gauge design, the VW speedometer style with the fine circular lines or the Judson gauge look.
