Judson Supercharger

Judson Supercharger for 25HP / 36HP engines.
Original Judson Supercharger.
The offered Superchargers are original parts from the 1950s and for this reason we may be out of stock sometimes. You have the choice of different states of refurbishment, the shown Judson for example received the complete service which means, every part is checked, new bearings and new vanes and, if necessary, a new rotor is fitted. Just tell what You are looking for.
The Judson Type 1 Supercharger can be fitted to either 25HP or 36HP engines. On the past 1955 36HP machines it is necessary to either slim the dynamo pulley on a lathe or use the Porsche 356 type pulley which can be supplied on demand. This is to prevent the supercharger belts from touching the dynamo drive.
No engine alterations have to be done, but we advise to use a distributor with a maximum of 22° crankshaft advance. The stock distributor will match this need when the vacuum advance is blocked, even better use a part from 123 Ignition (set to the needed 22° advance) or a Bosch 009 type distributor. Your stock carburetor is used on the Judson Supercharger, just main jet and butterfly lever have to be swapped with the supplied parts.
The supplied “Marvel Mystery Oiler” has to be mounted to the fire wall on the left side of the engine. This vacuum type adjustable lubricator supplies oil to the Supercharger vanes preventing wear. Please don´t use “Marvel Mystery Oil”, a better choice is either a modern two-stroke oil or a good caster oil like Castrol R30 / B353, also for the racing smell.
The Judson supercharger typically creates a maximum boost pressure between 4. 3 and 5. 8psi with a 1200cc engine. On a stock 28HP industrial engine we saw 68flbs @ 2400RPM and 51HP @ 3900RPM on our Schenck dynamometer (naturally aspirated engine 58flbs @ 2400RPM, 36HP @ 3400RPM). With some minor improvements on the engine (plain grinded cam followers and free breathing Abarth exhaust) we saw 58HP @ 4200RPM.
Our “hottest” 1200cc Judson engine with high ratio chain driven supercharger and free breathing “Snake Nest exhaust” created 82HP @ 4200RPM and 11psi of boost.

High Octane fuel is recommended with the supercharged engine. At least 98 ROZ is necessary to prevent engine damage due to high velocity knocking.
The Fuel consumption is not worse than with the naturally aspirated engine at calm driving. Sports minded driving can result in about 22mpg.
As an accessory we also offer boost pressure gauges with Judson suited measuring range. Observing boost pressure helps driving economically and protecting the engine. It´s also fun immediately watching the boost reaction on Your throttle foot movement.
We offer gauges with various dial designs, You have the choice of either Judson style look, VW speedometer style with the fine circular lines or Pepco gauge look.
You find the gauges and gauge-holders in the “Measuring Instruments” menu.
