Crankcase ventilation with a good oil-trap is essential with hot VW engines. A four cylinder boxer engine, theoretically, isn't able to produce crankcase pressure. In reality, due to the rather small inner ventilation holes of the 25HP and 36HP engine, there exists a certain amount of pressure forcing oil-mist towards the oil-filler / -breather. As with high revs this effect is becoming important especially on hot VW engines.
