MP Supercharger for 25HP / 36HP Engines.
AMR 500 Roots Supercharger Installation Kit by more-push
This Supercharger outfit is be patterned on the MAG Motosacoche Roots type Supercharger, that was made for the VW and first appeared in 1949 in Switzerland. We designed this installation kit to use the AISIN AMR 500 Roots type Blower, which at the outside is looking remarkably similar to the original MAG Supercharger, inside it´s manufactured entirely modern and precisely.
The Kit contents are:


  • Cast Aluminium pressure tube to connect the AMR 500 to the stock VW inlet manifold
  • Cast Aluminium intake tube to connect the carburetor to the Supercharger
  • Supercharger support consisting of a fuel pump block off plate and two support brackets
  • Throttle linkage consisting of three special bel cranks, butterfly lever and pushrods
  • Ignition coil support bracket
  • Supercharger drive pulley with hub
  • Crankshaft drive pulley
  • V-belt 9,5 x 1087 XPZ

An AISIN AMR 500 Supercharger can be obtained on ebay for reasonable price. If You wish we will assist in purchasing a suitable AMR 500 on demand.
The MP AMR 500 Supercharger setup is suitable for 25HP and 36HP engines. The AMR 500 Blower is sitting, as with the original MAG design, on the lefthand side of the distributor. The Superchargers weight and the drivebelt forces are supported by the sturdy, cast aluminium pressure tube and two support brackets fixed to the fuel pump block off plate. As this block off plate replaces the pump, the standard MP Supercharger outfit has to use an electric fuel pump that should be fitted near the petrol tank. The ignition coil finds its new place on a special support bracket on the righthand side of the dynamo.
No engine alterations have to be done, but we advise to use a distributor with a maximum of 22° crankshaft advance. The stock distributor will match this need if the vacuum advance is blocked, even better use a part from 123 Ignition (set to the needed 22° advance) or a Bosch 009 type distributor. We recommend to use the stock 36HP Solex 28PCI carburetor, but You can order our Installation Kit machined to use a Solex 34PCI carb (NSU 1200 TT carb for example) also.
As the space around the carburetor, which is sitting on the lefthand side of the fan shroud, is a bit limited and there is no air cleaner in the kit, You have to provide one by Your own. The engine in our 1953 test Beetle uses a Judson air cleaner, for example. We can assist finding a suitable part, if You wish.
Power output of the supercharged engine very much depends on the Supercharger drive ratio. Using our standard drive ratio of 1:1. 9, the AMR 500 produces a boost pressure of 7. 25psi to 8. 7psi. With this boost and a standard 36HP industrial engine we saw 85flbs @ 2400RPM and 61HP @ 3900RPM on our Schenck dynamometer (naturally aspirated engine 57flbs @ 2400RPM, 36HP @ 3400RPM). Fitting Speedwell 1:1. 25 rockers raised this figures to 92flbs @ 2400RPM and 72HP @ 4000RPM.
The 1953 Beetle we are using for road-tests, equipment with our MP AMR 500 outfit, is capable of a cruising speed of 75MPH to 80MPH, stopped top speed is about 90MPH, if the engine is good-tempered.
We suggest improving the brakes of Your car to tame it´s new temperament, of course.
High Octane fuel is recommended with the supercharged engine, either drive ratio You are using for Your special outfit. At least 98 ROZ fuel is necessary to prevent engine damage due to high velocity knocking.
The Fuel consumption is not worse than with the naturally aspirated engine at calm driving. Sports minded driving can result in about 22mpg.
As an accessory we also offer boost pressure gauges with AMR 500 suited measuring range. Observing boost pressure helps to drive economically and to protect the engine. It also is fun immediately watching the boost reaction on Your throttle foot movement.
We offer gauges with various dial designs, You have the choice of either the VW speedometer style with the fine circular lines, the original Pepco gauge design or the Judson gauge look.
