Maico Ring-Disc Brake

Maico Ring-Disc Brake for Porsche 356 (not Carrera) and Beetles until 10/1964.
In the year 1962 the German motorcycle manufacturer “Maico”, because of the decreasing motorbike market, tried to enter the growing market of VW accessories. Supported by the sporty image of the company, the Porsche Carrera like O. J. R. Ring-Disc Brake was the first attempt to get into the market of VW tuning parts and Maico took the license for this Brake.
The design of this very rare tuning accessory follows the Porsche 356 B Carrera system with the caliper grabbing a large ring-disc from the inside. The “Maico” brake fits all Porsche 356 Models equipped with drum brakes and VW Beetle cars until 10/1964.
The here offered “Maico” brake has found its way into our collection of rare VW tuning parts more than 30 years ago. During the long time we cling to the little VWs and Porsches we only once saw a “Maico” brake on the front of a Porsche 356 A.
We think that its now a long time we enjoyed this rare part in our show-case and it should find a new owner who may acknowledge its place in automobile and specially VW history.
The original historic packing, a simple cardbox with wooden frame and brown paper forwarding label, still exists in fragments. The parts of the brake are in a good, rust free untouched shape. The complete brake for the front axle ought to be usable as is. Of course it would be a good idea to check the rubber seal rings of the two calipers, all parts are at least about 57 years old.
But for sure this set, with all the neat details like for instance the cork plumbing of the brake-line inlets and the original 1963 forwarding label, will make an impressive exhibit in the show case.
